IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit)

An IFAK is a compact first aid kit carried by each person, with contents defined by the user’s medical authority for the injuries expected in their role.

Also called: Individual first aid kit · Personal trauma kit

An Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) is issued to each soldier, officer or field worker and carried on the body or on load-carriage equipment, so that first aid can start before medical staff arrive. Its contents are not fixed by a single international standard: they are set by the buyer’s medical authority, based on the users’ training and the risks of their role.

For procurement, an IFAK is best described as a line-by-line content list (item, specification, quantity), plus the pouch design, attachment method, labelling language, sterility and storage needs, and the minimum shelf life at delivery. Regulated medical devices in the kit keep their manufacturer’s documentation. This definition is procurement guidance, not medical advice.
