Also called: PP sample · Sealed sample
The pre-production sample (PPS or PP sample) is produced after fabric and trims are approved, using the materials and the production method of the bulk order. It shows the buyer exactly what will be delivered — not a concept or a development sample.
When the buyer approves it, the sample is usually sealed, labelled and kept by both parties as a counter-sample. The approval record refers to it by number and date, and inline and final inspections compare production against the written specification and this sealed sample. Changes after PPS approval normally need a new approval, because they change the agreed reference.
