TOP sample (Top of Production)

A TOP sample is taken from the first finished and packed units of bulk production to confirm that bulk output matches the approved sample.

Also called: Top-of-production sample

The TOP (top of production) sample is pulled from the first units that come off the bulk line fully finished — labelled, folded and packed as they will ship. Where the pre-production sample proves the design and materials, the TOP sample proves that the factory reproduces them at production speed.

Buyers use it to check workmanship, measurements, labels, folding and packing before most of the order is made, while corrections are still cheap. If the order requires a TOP sample, state how many units, who receives them and how long approval may take, because the production plan depends on it.
