Also called: Spec sheet · Technical data package · TDP · Tech pack
The technical specification, in apparel often called a tech pack and in government procurement a technical data package (TDP), defines an item precisely enough that two suppliers would quote the same product. It normally covers technical drawings with measurement points and tolerances, materials and trims, construction details, colour or pattern references, the size chart and size split, labelling and marking, packing, and the tests and acceptance criteria.
Where a standard sample exists, the specification refers to it, but the sample does not replace the written text: tolerances, fabric performance and tests still have to be written down. A specification that names performance values together with their test methods avoids most disputes at delivery.
